Bondage

BDSMIntensity
What it is

Bondage is the practice of restraining a partner — tying, cuffing, or otherwise binding them so their movement is limited. It runs from a scarf around the wrists to intricate rope harnesses, and it can be playful and light or a serious, skill-based art. At its core it's the erotic exchange of physical control: one person gives up freedom of movement, the other takes it. You don't need expertise to begin — a necktie or a pair of cuffs is enough — though advanced rope work rewards real study. It's one of the foundational pillars of BDSM (the 'B').

Why people are into it

For the bound partner, helplessness and surrender can be deeply freeing — nothing to do but feel and trust. For the one tying, there's the control, the aesthetics, and the care of holding someone safely in their hands. Restriction also heightens every other sensation.

In practice

One partner binds the other's wrists, arms, or whole body — with rope, cuffs, tape, or improvised ties — then may tease, touch, or simply admire them while they're unable to move freely. Positions range from hands-behind-the-back to elaborate decorative harnesses.

Safety & consent

Nerve damage is the biggest real risk, so keep ties clear of joints and major nerve lines and check often for numbness, tingling, or cold/color changes — release at once if they appear. Never bind the neck, never leave a restrained person alone, and always keep safety shears within reach to cut them free fast. Agree a safeword and a non-verbal signal in case their mouth is covered.
