Hickeys

ExtraIntensity
What it is

A hickey (a 'love bite') is the mark left by kissing and sucking hard on the skin — usually the neck — strongly enough to break tiny blood vessels underneath, leaving a reddish-purple bruise-like spot. It's the visible souvenir of a heated makeout, and for many that's precisely the point: a temporary, semi-public sign of passion and of being wanted or 'claimed.' Giving and receiving them can be its own erotic focus. They typically fade over a week or two. It overlaps with biting, marking, and possession dynamics.

Why people are into it

The appeal is passion made visible — the intense sucking feels good, and the mark left behind is a lingering, slightly possessive reminder of the encounter, sometimes worn a little proudly (or carefully hidden). Being 'claimed' this way carries a charge of desire and belonging.

In practice

One partner presses their mouth to the skin — often the neck, but anywhere works — and sucks firmly for several seconds, sometimes with light teeth, to draw a mark. Where marks land is often chosen with visibility (or hiding) in mind.

Safety & consent

Harmless, if occasionally awkward to explain. Marks fade on their own; avoid sucking directly over the throat's arteries, and note that very aggressive marking can leave a spot that lasts longer. That's about it.
