Submission

BaseIntensity
What it is

Submission is the 'S' of D/s — consensually yielding control to a dominant partner and taking pleasure in obeying, serving, and surrendering. The submissive (or 'sub') gives over authority, whether just in a scene or as an ongoing dynamic, and finds arousal and fulfillment in pleasing, following rules, and letting go. Roles under its umbrella range from bottom to slave, brat to service sub. It's the counterpart to dominance, and the two define each other. The surrender itself — trusting another with control — is the core experience.

Why people are into it

For many, submitting is a profound relief: handing over decisions and control frees them from responsibility and lets them simply feel, obey, and be cared for. There's deep satisfaction in pleasing a trusted dominant, and the vulnerability of surrender can feel intensely intimate and even blissful ('subspace').

In practice

The submissive follows the dominant's lead — obeying orders, keeping rules or protocols, serving, and offering their body or decisions — within negotiated limits. It can be scene-only or an ongoing lifestyle, expressed through anything from kneeling to full service.

Safety & consent

Submission is powerful but never means losing your rights: negotiate limits, keep a safeword that always works, and remember consent is revocable. Watch for a dominant who ignores limits or erodes your autonomy (a red flag, not the real thing), and expect aftercare, since deep submission and its comedown ('sub drop') can hit hard.
