Wax play

BaseIntensity
What it is

Wax play is dripping hot wax from a candle onto a partner's body for a warm, biting rush of sensation. Done right, the wax has cooled just enough by the time it lands to sting and warm without burning or marking — a vivid, temperature-based flavor of sensation and impact play. The dominant controls where and how the wax falls, and peeling or scraping it off afterward is its own sensation. It ranges from gentle warmth to sharper, more intense play. It overlaps with temperature play, sensation play, and BDSM.

Why people are into it

The appeal is the sudden, hard-to-predict flash of heat across the skin — a sharp, momentary sting that fades to warmth, all controlled by someone else. Not knowing exactly where the next drop will land builds anticipation, and the surrender to another's control heightens it.

In practice

The top drips wax from a candle held at a height above the bottom's skin (higher means cooler on landing), moving across the body to build a pattern of warm splashes, then peels or scrapes it off. It's often combined with blindfolds for suspense or with other sensation play.

Safety & consent

Use only candles made for wax play — never household or scented candles, which burn far too hot. Test on your own skin or a small spot first, drip from a good height to cool it, and stay on fleshy areas — avoid the face, genitals, and any broken or sensitive skin. Keep the open flame well away from the person, hair, and anything flammable, watch for burns, and have aftercare (and a way to remove wax) ready.
